Alter Ego
Brief
The goal is to create a furniture piece that upholds Cassina’s tradition of quality and design excellence while embracing a vivid, imaginative spirit. Balancing lively sculptural flourishes with rational elegance, the final design should feel intuitively alive, forging a deeper emotional connection with the user. By harmonizing these elements, the piece embodies a humanistic philosophy of animism, transcending mere utility to deliver a richly layered experience. Through this vivid, visual storytelling, we honor Cassina’s lineage of timeless modernism, creating a work that resonates in both form and feeling.

Idea
Everyone has two sides. There is the version of ourselves we show to the world, the one that is calm, polite, structured. Then, there is the version that only a few people know, more expressive, emotional, sometimes wild. This project brings that contrast into a physical object. The credenza is what we let others see every day. The bar cart is what we keep for special moments, for celebration, for intimacy, for ourselves.
The idea of coexistence is key here. These two parts, the credenza and the bar cart, are not separate objects. They live together in the same space. Just like our different personalities coexist within us, both pieces share the same room. They are not fighting each other. They work together. Both are used to serve, both offer storage, and both provide a surface. The difference is how and when we use them. The credenza is always accessible, everyone in the home can open it, use it, interact with it. The bar cart, however, only comes out when something special happens. It’s not for every moment, just like some parts of us are not for everyone.
